Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, technological progress has skyrocketed worldwide, allowing for major discoveries within the field. One of the most significant trends today is the shift towards automated public transportation. Although some concerns remain, I believe the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages.
One major benefit is the reduction of accidents. Human error continues to account for more than 90 percent of crashes on the road. Automated buses and trucks follow set algorithms and do not suffer from distraction, fatigue, or emotional reactions. As a result, their ability to operate with more precision could help prevent thousands of unfortunate circumstances and improve overall road safety.
Another key advantage is the amount of time individuals would regain. Without the need to focus on driving, people could dedicate more time to tasks such as reading, working, or relaxing during their commute. This shift could lead to a noticeable boost in individuals’ productivity and enjoyment of daily travel.
However, one hurdle in supporting the wide implementation of driverless vehicles often stems from a lack of trust in the technology itself. It is of great significance that these systems are tested for reliability across an infinite range of traffic scenarios, especially considering the unpredictable circumstances that can occur on the road. Real-life instances of collisions involving automated trucks raise important safety concerns that cannot be ignored.
Nevertheless, I strongly believe that as technology improves, these risks will be reduced. The potential for safer roads and more efficient use of time makes the benefits of automated public transport far greater than its drawbacks.
