In today’s constantly changing and fast-paced world, people are increasingly using online communication to work. However, whether using online communication brings more harm than good to society is debatable. In my view, the negative effects of online communication outweigh the positive ones.
Online communication can significantly improve working efficiency because people can communicate with customers wherever they are, which means that we do not need to spend time and money commuting. For example, people can contact or email clients with a click of the mouse, even in different countries. If online communication were not invented, we would spend most of our time going to clients’ cities for face-to-face meetings. Therefore, online communication plays an irreplaceable and essential role in workers’ lives.
Online communication causes employees to be under high working pressure because their employers tend to order them to work whenever they want, which means that they are likely to work from home in their spare time to prevent themselves from being fired and not get enough rest to recharge. Also, the time spent with families is reduced significantly. By contrast, face-to-face meetings do not have this problem. Therefore, online communication has a bad impact on employees.
Personally, I am strongly convinced that online communication brings more harm than good to society. Although online communication can improve working efficiency immediately and bring other so-called advantages, it sacrifices employees’ rights to benefit employers in the long term. Therefore, my view is that online communication brings numerous troubles to employees, such as high working pressure and lacking rest time, reducing the company’s productivity.
