Recently, corporate firms are increasingly focusing on branding their goods and services as new in their promotional material. This trend mainly stems from highly competitive business environments and in my opinion, it is a negative development since it has led to a spread of misinformation.
It is easier to set up an enterprise in the 21st century than any other time period. This is because entrepreneurship training is more widely available, resulting in more able businessmen across various industries. The companies owned by them compete for higher profitability which advances the need for novel material as customers tend to be attracted to unique items and have an urge to purchase them. As a result, the organisation with the latest item has an edge over its rivals. For example: Samsung’s split screen feature caused a boom in its mobile sales. However, this is not necessarily beneficial.
In a bid to act differently, many businesses alter simple elements such as the colour of the product without actually creating a new one. This is then labelled with terms such as ‘present-day breakthroughs’ to appeal to consumers even though there are no substantial modifications. Red Bull faced a lawsuit in 2014 in regards to claims that their newly launched drinks improved physical performance despite no scientific evidence. This way, the buyers are tricked which causes them monetary loss as their purchase does not bring the stated effects.
Overall, the reason for corporations to promote their items as advanced is a hyper-competitive market and this is detrimental due to the possibility of people getting deceived.
