Many brands these days are encouraging their marketing agents to promote their products as unique from other similar brands in one way or another. Companies do this due to the increasing competition in the contemporary market. I take this as a positive development.
There are significant benefits in advertising products. On the one hand, the competition between businesses in the market has been substantially increasing. To win this race, brands need to adopt different marketing methods to promote their products as something different compared to similar commodities in the market. For instance, after the establishment of the McDonald’s fast-food chain, there has been a boom in the number of fast-food chains, with the establishment of different spinoffs. Yet due to their taste and fast service, McDonald’s stood out among various similar spinoffs.
On the other hand, marketing strategies can increase the sales of the products and allow the company to withstand the competition among the brands. One example is the advertising rivalry between the two most famous soft drink companies, Coca-Cola and Pepsi. The unique TV commercials they make about each other make them stand out in the game of soft drinks. It also helps promote healthy competition between big brands.
In conclusion, it can be said that businesses promoting their products as something new is not at all wrong because it only helps a company to grow and build a name for itself among the consumers. But it should be done by degrading the other companies in the same field.
