An uprise in water pollution has become a worldwide problem as it causes many life-threatening diseases. This essay will first highlight the causes for this phenomenon are the lack of sewage maintenance and marine dumping and argue that by proper use of septic tanks and reducing plastic waste are the most viable solutions.
The foremost cause of water pollution is the lack of maintenance done to keep the sewages disinfected. Many Urban cities face this problem as there is lack of proper drainage system present. This leads to the mixing of sewage water and drinking water which reaches my household and increases the rate of health problems. For instance, consumption of contaminated water can lead to diseases such as jaundice, acute liver failure, and many more.
Furthermore, marine dumping over the years have increased which in turn has increased the presence of micro plastic mixed with drinking water. When this is consumed, it can cause a lot of health problems such as cell damage, and inflammatory bowel damage and so on.
Possible solutions to these problems would be to use septic tanks for filtration and reduce the dumping of plastic waste in the oceans. Septic tanks are a great way to efficiently treat sewage; separating solids from liquid, which helps in disinfecting the sewage. Furthermore, if each individual reduces plastic dumping into water, the negative effects on the water will be reduced, which will mean fewer chances of health problems arising. Goa, a coastal area, is prone to these problems and has taken such measures for the safety of its people.
To conclude, one of the biggest global concerns is increasing water pollution due to which many health problems arise, but possible solutions could be adopted to disinfect and de-salinize our water but adopting certain techniques and habits used by the people living near coast.
