Many contemporary gadgets and online communication applications allow people to work in their official workplaces and anywhere they want, such as at home, during travels, in cafes, etc. While there are numerous drawbacks to this mobility, such as mental health issues due to life-work imbalance, I believe that the advantages, such as productivity outweigh its disadvantages.
The main benefit of mobility that enables information technologies is the organization of the work process by individual employees, according to their own needs. It allows people to be more self-organized, to enhance productivity, to be more responsible, to creates their timetable themselves, and to become more flexible. Additionally, being able to work anywhere can be beneficial to companies to reduce expenditure for office facilities, and for the employees to cut their expenses for transportation. For instance, during the Coronavirus most people started working at home using their computers, and diverse new programs were released or became more popular, which allowed people to do their jobs without leaving homes.
There are some disadvantages of such mobility, like life-work imbalance, some mental issues, even depression, obesity, isolation, some security concerns, technical issues, which can not be solved without an IT department, lack of communication, etc. People nowadays prefer to work outside the office, despite they sometimes can not set boundaries between work and personal life, which results in distraction and dissatisfaction. For instance, most freelancers complain about isolation and abnormal working hours.
In conclusion, although it is believed that there are numerous drawbacks to mobility and working outside the workplace, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
