At the present time, global tourism has become into a major industry at the every part of the world and it is often argued by some individuals that there are most drawbacks than profits. While this statement can make sense to a certain degree, I would find this idea rather-short sighted for some sound reasons.
On the one hand, I understand why tourisms should be held responsible for society. The first reason could be about their economies of scale. In other words, with their economic power in their budget, some investments, especially large ones, can make huge contributions to the prosperity of the communities by earning money into necessary spheres. For example, company which protects ancient monuments, UNESCO, is ranked in Top 10 among its opponents in terms of revenue. This company is famous for its serves for many years. These expenses may not be so significant for UNESCO, but can make a big difference in society.
However, I believe tourisms should not be accountable for society responsibilities. Most of the companies have been already contributing to society via huge taxes they pay and employing people. And this also can lead to recruiting people from almost every part of the world. If people visit to work, they will have to pay for accomodations. As the result, it can advantage not only companies but also society. To elucidate, people who are visiting for work purposes can also learn other cultures as well. Considering these aspects, I believe placing social responsibility on the shoulders of tourism is a wrong decision.
Taking everything into consideration, although tourism can benefit society with their relatively larger economies, I do not think they should be responsible for social causes due to taxes, employment and their own expenses.
