Band 6+: It is more important for schoolchildren to learn about local history than world history. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is often said that children at school should learn about their national story more than the global story, because it is disrespectful to their culture. I totally agree with this idea due to some reasons, so this essay will discuss why?

Firstly, being aware of the other nation’s story before knowing your own one, has to be a huge disrespect to the local story. Scholars must learn more about what happened in their state, because it is the wrong choice to prioritize another country’s history rather than his local one. For example, when a kid is being taught more about something else that is not connected to his national history, it should be considered as a giant disrespect to people who created this story in the past. Another reason is, child’s circumstances and his behavioral condition depending on what is in the first place. When a kid is taught more about foreign histories instead of the opposite, it can influence a kid’s emotional well-being in the future and affect decision making. For instance, putting more focus on global history and being less aware of your own one, can bring difficulties with making the right decision for your own state in the future. Apart from that, it activates certain areas of the brain which are responsible for showing love for his culture. Scholars have been told about their local history since they were young, meaning that it will be much easier and efficient learning more about their local history. For example, in my country children start learning about history at a really your age from their moms and grandparents, so they will have some knowledge about it before going to the school which will make learning it faster and easier for the kid.

However, most teachers find it very boring for the child, due to the similarity of the data, some kids are even falling asleep during the lessons. So it can be really tiring for a kid, meaning that he will no longer be willing to study this subject again.

In conclusion, it is crucial for the child to be taught about their local history more than global one, so it will teach them respect for the country. Apart from that, learning national history is much easier for them, because they have been learning it since their childhood. However, it might also be tiring for children which can lead to lower academic progress.
