Band 6+: Long distance flight consumes the amount of fuel that a car uses for many years and pollutes the air. Some people think that we should discourage non-essential flights, such as tourists travel, rather than limit the use of cars. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is often agreed that we should discourage non-essential flights, such as tourist travel, rather than limit the use of cars. While I acknowledge that this perspective has certain merits, I firmly believe that flights also have its benefits, as will be discussed in this essay.

It is clear that practical necessity of limiting cars. One of the main reasons is that reducing road transport emissions by cutting down the number of private cars can help reduce the environmental pollution. This can be explain by the fact that most households own their own car. As a result, it makes a colossal emissions density when these vehicles are in traffic. For example, we can encourage commuters to switch to public transport, this can lead to fewer vehicles on the road. Another reason is that impractical short-term transition. It likely refers to the idea that immediately and drastically limiting car use would be difficult and disruptive for many people. It suggests that such a sudden change might not be feasible or well received due to various factors.

Another key justification for my view is the disproportionate environmental impact. First of all, non-essential flights often consume large amounts of fuel per journey, thereby representing a source of avoidable emissions. This can be explained by the fact that postponing leisure trips or replacing them with domestic travel would help immediately cut down on unnecessary aviation emissions. Secondly, there is the issue of lower social costs. This can be explained as tourism is an optional activity for most people, so restricting it causes less disruption than limiting daily car usage. For instance, restricting holiday flights would affect fewer people than measures restricting car travel. Although some people argue that discouraging non-essential flights, such as tourist travel, is better, rather than limiting the use of cars, this view is not entirely convincing, as flights are necessary with people who need to go in a long distance.

In conclusion, although some people believe that car should be encouraged more than plane, I firmly believe that flights still have their own advantages. Overall, flights are more beneficial in the long run.
