With the rapid growth of social media, fashion awareness has expanded worldwide, influencing people’s clothing choices more strongly than ever before. The idea of something “going viral” already implies global reach because the content spreads across international platforms like Instagram and X. Accordingly, global fashion is substantially influential in the way we dress on a daily basis. In my opinion, this increasing dominance of global fashion trends has negative impacts, which people may not be aware of, on the well-being of a person.
Despite its influence, global fashion also brings some negative consequences, particularly fostering unhealthy mindsets and financial pressure. The trends contribute to an unhealthy mentality in such ways that people try hard to fit into a society which is driven by following the up-to-date trends. In order to keep up with those trends, they have to invest a significant amount of their income in purchasing branded clothing. Consequently, it will affect the financial status of individuals as the income is being misused upon their wants to fulfil a short-term satisfaction instead of basic needs. Furthermore, if this type of behavioral obsession towards fashion is prolonged, it can also drag a person down into depression if they cannot keep up with the trends anymore. A sense of belonging in those individuals will be shattered upon the fact that they are falling behind the trends and others are way ahead of them.
On the positive side, those fashion trends can shape a person’s features and lifestyle. By having awareness, it will encourage the person to wear more appealing clothes and further enhance the image of the person in the eyes of passersby and society. Additionally, this will have a positive impact on how their peers treat them. In fact, people who dress smartly and present themselves well are more likely to be favored and complimented by those around them. Subsequently, this will boost their confidence and get them motivated by a positive environment. However, it is important to note that these benefits obtained from fashion are not guaranteed for everyone, and the pressure to keep up with the constantly changing trends can create unnecessary stress. Furthermore, following the global fashion trends may lead individuals to prioritize appearance over comfort or personal expression, which can ultimately make the influence of fashion less positive overall.
In conclusion, the overall impact on individuals is negative since the drawbacks are likely to outweigh the benefits. As a result, it is essential for individuals to critically assess these trends rather than adopt them blindly.
