Today’s the central reason of road accidents are due to the high speed of vehicles so there are many who believed that minimizing the speed limits is one of the better options for road safety. I think that there are more relevant alternatives for this problem, however, I believe that it have both advantages and disadvantages, it will make more easier for traffic but also speed limits hamper the emergency vehicles.
Even though the road accident happens due to high speed it is not only the cases. So there are lots of factors which can cause a serious problem. First of all accidents are occurred due to the congested road. In the country like Nepal there are many narrow road especially in the city areas where frequency of transportation is very high. Widening the roads with footpaths and quality construction can be done to improve the road safety. The second option for better highway safety is strict rules and regulations. Mainly follow the traffic rules strictly. In addition, have the punishment for rules breaker. As a result, it will be more easier to do work for traffic police.
The advantage of doing so is easier to zebra cross for the people. For instance, there are many cases of accidents that occurred in the zebra cross because drivers cannot brake their vehicles immediately due to the high speed hence, if there is the rule of speed limit then it will lessen the certain accidents. However, the statements sound effective, it have drawbacks which cannot ignore too. There are lots of emergency vehicles like fire brigades, ambulance, and police vans. Those transportations should drive quite faster than other vehicles. So if there is application of such rule on those vehicles then it will be more damaging and detrimental.
In conclusion, it is widely believed that reducing race limit is the best option to improve road safety. From my point of view, it is not only solution to road safety, so governments should look upon the road conditions more deeply, although it helps to reduce the road accidents, but detrimentals to the emergency vehicles.
