Many children today spend long hours playing video games. While this trend offers unique opportunities for rest and relaxation, I believe that it is generally negative due to its detrimental impact on children’s academic performance.
Without a doubt, online gaming helps children relax and recharge their batteries. When children engage in entertaining games after completing their academic responsibilities, they can temporarily disconnect from schoolwork and everyday pressures, thereby allowing their minds to unwind. As a result, they can feel mentally refreshed and emotionally recharged, which ultimately helps them return to their studies with greater concentration and motivation. When children have little time for recreational activities, on the other hand, they may remain under constant academic pressure, which can leave them mentally exhausted and less motivated to learn.
However, in my view, playing video games generally harms children, especially when it comes to their academic growth. When children spend excessive amounts of time gaming, they may devote less time and attention to their studies, thereby falling behind in their schoolwork and failing to develop essential academic skills. As a result, their concentration and learning efficiency can decline, which ultimately leads to poorer academic performance. Moreover, excessive gaming can become a habit that is difficult to control, meaning that children may prioritise entertainment over their educational responsibilities. This can prevent them from maintaining a healthy balance between recreation and study, potentially undermining their long-term educational progress.
In conclusion, although video gaming provides valuable opportunities for relaxation and stress-relief, I believe that its negative effects on children’s studies should be taken more seriously.
