These days, it is becoming increasingly common for ex-prisoners to reoffend shortly after being released. This essay will examine the underlying causes of this issue and propose several viable solutions to tackle it.
There are two compelling reasons leading to reoffense of former prisoners. The first major cause is the lack of support when ex-convicts are released. Offenders often encounter prejudice and discrimination from society due to their previous wrongdoings, thereby this can hinder them from seeking employment and earning a living. As a result, they often return to illegal activities as a way to survive. Another radical factor is the poor quality of rehabilitation programmes inside prisons. During the long period in prison, offenders may hardly receive proper educational and navigation programs to change their mindset and gain new skills. Therefore, when they are released, they may find it challenging to adapt to the fast-evolving society and the changes it creates, therefore end up reoffending again as they feel lost and left behind.
In order to mitigate these prevalent issues, there are several feasible solutions that can be applied. One effective method is upgrading rehabilitation programs and providing job training for prisoners. By equipping offenders with both practical and social skills, they can have more opportunities to get stable jobs and adapt to society after being released. Additionally, the government could cooperate with private companies to encourage them to recruit ex-prisoners through tax incentives. Ex-convicts who are qualified and capable should be valued and given the opportunity to work in a better environment. Ultimately, community support should be raised to ensure a healthy and developed environment, where ex-prisoners feel welcomed and supported to rebuild their lives.
In conclusion, while there might be a lack of assistance and reintegrating programmes that make ex-offenders commit crime again, the problems can be effectively solved by the initiatives that I mentioned above.
