Band 7+: Many criminals commit further crime as soon as they are released from prison. What do you think are the causes of this? What possible sollutions can you suggest?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is common that several former criminals tend to reoffend immediately after leaving prison. This essay will serve to discuss major factors behind this phenomenon, while proposing many possible sollutions based on my own perspectives.

One of the most significant factors associated with this trajectory is lack of job opportunities. It is clear that large numbers of ex-prisoners struggle to pursue a job which provides them a stable income because many managers and employers do not just people with a criminal record, leading them to often face several financial issues. As a result, without a legal source of income due to social discrimination, they may choose to reoffend as a way to survive. In addition, another pivotal cause is poor education inside prison. A majority of prisons fail to provide appropriate and sufficient education or vocational training for criminals, which are extremely valuable for a new life. Therefore, when they are released into our enviroment without comprehending many negative consequences driven by their behaviour, some tend to commit further crime again.

In order to tackle these problems, several possible solutions could be implemented. Firstly, offering more job training and programs for prisoners might be the most effective method. These programs can teach them useful skills and prepare them for real jobs after being released. As a result, this improves their quality of life, thereby reducing levels of crime. Furthermore, raising awareness among residents also plays a significant role. When local authorities explain the difficulties that ex-criminals face, people tend to have a better understanding, leading them show empathy instead of fear or discrimination. This creates a more supportive environment that helps former prisoners become more confident and have chances to start their new lives.

In conclusion, lack of job opportunites and poor education are the major factors leading to the phenomenon that many criminals commit crime immediately after being free from prison. However, providing job training for criminals and raising public awareness could be the possible solutions to tackle these problems.
