First and foremost, if raw materials for the production of sugary products are made expensive, sugary products companies who do not have huge capital will fall off the market due to their inability to purchase more raw materials to produce more products as required. This will mean that, a lot of companies will be forced to close down, and this initiative will limit the production of sugary products.
For example, school canteen women who sell ice cream to schoolchildren will begin to sell other things like spring rolls and chips, which do not need sugar to prepare, than to push too much capital into purchasing expensive ingredients for the ice cream.
Moreover, there will be a scarcity of sweetened products in the market due to the fact that companies have closed down and there is a limited supply of sweetened products for people to purchase from the market. Hawkers of market women will look for other products that are readily available to sell to gain more profit than to chase after unavailable products. Consumers will then begin to gradually switch from the consumption of sugary products.
In conclusion, I firmly agree that sugary products must be made more expensive to motivate people to consume less to help limit the number of health problems associated with the consumption of sugary food and drinks.
