In modern society, health issues have always been a focal point in people’s lives. There are some voices claiming the urgency to increase the prices of sugary products because they contain plenty of sugar and will consequently lead to some health problems. From my perspective, I do not agree with this stance for several reasons presented below.
First of all, sugar actually plays a pivotal role in our bodies, offering necessary energy to maintain the basic functions of all the organs. Without enough sugar, we will get tired more regularly and easily, which is in-conducive to our personal health. Furthermore, there are many sorts of food containing high levels of sugar, ranging from fastfood to essential cereals and vegetables. For examples, corns and potatoes are two types of ingredients which possess abundant nutrients. Though we have to admit that having too much junkfood would make us more corpulent, we still need other healthy food.
On the other hand, rising the price of sugary products can lead to some domino effects regarding the economic section. It will firstly break the equilibrium of the consumer market, and subsequently result in monetary inflation because the income of residents remain unchanged at the same period. And finally, the worst situation will be a serious famine, because by that time people will not be able to afford the food and have to starve. In fact, they will be much unhealthier compared to consuming excessive sugar.
In conclusion, considering the importance of sugar and the serious consequences of rising prices, making it expensive may cause counterproductive effects on some occasions. Sugar is like a double-edged sword, with proper consumption, it will be beneficial.
