In the current era, a lot of food products have too much sugar. Therefore, it is suggested that the price of highly sweet products should be raised to discourage customers from consuming high amounts of them. I deeply agree with this line of thought because this can help to control many adverse effects on both health and budgets.
To embark on, making sweet food items more expensive can encourage limiting consuming high amounts of sugar, and thus reduce its detrimental impact on health. To illustrate, these types of food can increase blood sugar levels dramatically, leading ultimately to health ailments such as diabetes and obesity, and high prices can reduce the incidents of such cases. For instance, some countries have decided to apply extra taxes on sweet food to control its consumption. Thus, the authorities in different countries should adopt such strategies to guarantee less health problems.
Furthermore, buying sweet products with high prices can influence families’ budgets which can lead to cutting out the expenses on such commodities. This means that when children buy a lot of sweet candies without restriction, they cause their parents to suffer high economic losses. This can be exemplified by several Egyptian families who suffer from economic issues because their adolescents cannot stop buying candies and ice cream as they were not taught to restrict their sugar consumption when they were younger. Therefore, every household should consider educating their minors on how harmful addicting buying sugary food can be.
In conclusion, the positive effects gained from increasing the cost of the food with carbohydrates are not only limited to the health of individuals but also the economic state of families. Ergo, I am of the belief that the government should entice manufacturers to increase the prices of their sugary products.
