Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 6+: Many museums charge for admission while others are free do you think the advantages of charging people for admission to museums outweigh the disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

While people are frequently encouraged to visit museums, it is noteworthy that many of them now impose entrance fees. In my view, the disadvantages slightly outweigh the benefits because the preservation of local culture holds greater significance than financial gains. On the one hand, one of the major disadvantages is high entrance fees, which exclude a large proportion of families, especially in less developed countries. Many families in poorer nations struggle to afford even basic necessities like food and rent. Visiting an exhibit may be one of the few cultural activities they can enjoy for free. For instance, Morocco has millions of people in poverty, yet it boasts a rich and ancient culture. Another negative aspect is that children and students, who are learning about their local culture, may not afford to visit. It would be a shame if art students could not see their favorite painters and sculptors’ work in real life due to financial incapabilities. On the other hand, an advantageous aspect lies in the contribution of the collected entrance fee to the sustainability and development of the museums. Thanks to the collected money museums are more likely to remain open for few people to explore them rather than none at all. Therefore the government should step in and help fund sustainability costs because local culture is as important than everything else it spends on. As an illustration, the UK government have been spending huge amounts over the last decades. However the museum have always had a share from it because of their importance to the country’s cultural heritage In conclusion, i would argue that prioritizing the preservation of cultural heritage outweighs the crucial aspect of sustaining museums.
