In contemporary times, some segments of society argue that the admission fee to museums should be made free to the general public, while others think on the contrary. I personally believe that such establishments could only significantly benefit from ticket collections in a plethora of ways.
On the one hand, museums often have a collection of ancient artifacts that must be well preserved in special environmental conditions, and this requires a dedicated team of experts. Therefore, the maintenance cost could accumulate substantially over the year, consequently requiring sufficient amount of funding. For instance, the National Museum of National History in France holds an extensive collection of Egyptian artifacts, which requires a budget of 2 million Euros aa year for preservation efforts. This museum is exemplary because it is able to fund their own efforts from the proceeds of admission tickets. Moreover, the surplus amount is then used to fund ongoing Archeological research programs which is of utmost importance.
On the other hand, while allowing the general public to enter museums freely will foster people to learn about history, the cost of building maintenance incurred on a yearly basis could increase significantly, whereby forcing governments to allocate a bigger sum from a country´s economic budget, which should be prioritized for other important sectors such as healthcare. For example, the German government have announced that they will no longer provide funds to Museums in its country, as the yearly budget of over 2 billion Euros annually affects their country´s economic plans, instead, they have encouraged stakeholders to impose an admission fee that is deemed acceptable to visitors.
In conclusion, although free admission benefits the young and old, in numerous ways to bolstering the interests for people to learn about history. However, maintaining a building with artifacts requires constant funding, which is paramount to archeological society, therefore I believe, imposing an admission fee is only beneficial and it outweigh the disadvantages.
