In various restaurants, it is becoming common that there should be nutrition labels on every meal. While it is likened to inevitable issues arising from this view, I am a strong advocate of the merits brought on by it. This essay shall point out the advantages and disadvantages of this perspective.
On the one hand, consumers should be informed before deciding their final purchases. As consumers are more aware of the nutrition content, they can refrain from consuming something that can negatively impact their digestive systems, or in the worst-case scenario, food poisoning. For instance, an individual who is allergic to a certain ingredient can protect themselves from an allergic reaction with the help of a detailed description of the dish. In addition, not only does it provide customers with essential disclosure of a meal, but it also provides each nutrition value before consuming. Specifically, there are several campaigns which encourage beverage industries to expose what a dish consists of, and thereby lead to a beneficial lifestyle.
On the other hand, because of an individual’s preference, some people might lose their sense of fulfillment upon discovering what the dish contains. For example, someone who is constantly counting on calories of the nourishment, may be frustrated since it can contain an ingredient that can dominantly gain calories. Moreover, individuals often find discomfort from witnessing tons of information about a product, especially if the product displays a comprehensive description. For most people, especially children, they wouldn’t mind about the nutrition labels before eating a meal, regardless of its health implications. Thus, whilst the presentation of a product is crucial for consumers, it is imperative to take personal feelings and attitudes into consideration.
In conclusion, while an individual’s reluctance and emotions are brought on by a description of a product, I firmly believe that they are overshadowed by the informing and awareness of the customers, which are the desired outcome.
