There is a heated debate among many people about whether restaurants should be obliged to reveal the nutritional information of the dishes they offer to customers. Though there are clear upsides of this development, to my perspective, they are well outweighed by the drawbacks thereof.
On the one hand, it is essential to consider possible disadvantages of disclosing the nutritional value of the meals served at the restaurants. The main one is arguably has to do with misunderstandings and potential mishaps. That is because, nutritional value of those foods, including but not limited to fast food and spaghetti, can differ based on cooking method, ingridients required and portion size which in turn causes a challenge and several inaccurases in evaluating and demonstrating each component of those restaurant meals. Another downsides is associated with the financial difficulties. To illustrate, the demand for the restaurants to display the nutritional value of meals can be pretty pricey, requiring the costs for analysis, staff training and printing new manuscripts for enabling people to get a deeper understanding of what they are eating.
I, on the other hand, argue that the aforementioned disadvantages of this trend pale in comparison with its plausible advantages. Firstly, it can be a way giving a credibility for people of those foods that they are consuming. That is, people are compelled to make informed choices about their health when when provided nutrional information of all foods. In this sense, for instance, those having allergies, restrictions on meat or fat contained goods, namely Vegetarians are well-informed of those outdoor meals in advance. Secondly, when this suggestion is promoted, it is likely to provoke other resturants alike to offer the same privelages for their customers, leading to high competitions among them in providing decent food services and healthier options for people.
In conclusion, demanding the restaurants of providing the chance for people in terms of analyzing the nutrional value of meals, might be disadvantageous for some reasons, yet I believe that its demerits are of secondary importance as far as embracing health options and a healthy competitions are concerned.
