It is true that eating places revealing nutrition facts about the food they present is requested by societies in today’s complex world.
While I accept that providing consumers with nutritional informations of dishes has positive effect on society, I tend to believe that it is more likely to have a harmful impact.
On the one hand, many insisting on restaurants to expose the nutritional details of their menu items has positive effects. First and foremost, it could be argued that since many individuals today are interested in physic sculpting, they tend to watch their forms by counting nutritions consumed during the day, which often seems to be a bit challenging while eating outside considering that it is arduous to guess nutritional details of freshly cooked dishes such as chefs’ special recipes or menus. It would appear that if nutritional data of food and beverages were provided by providers those individuals could easily count their food intake and most likely to emphasize consuming food outside which seems to derive profit for both restaurants and societies. For example research has shown that menu calorie labeling in restaurants, as the ruling in New York City, led to consumers choosing lower-calorie options, which potentially improves public health by reducing calorie intake outside the home.
However, I would argue that these benefits are outweighed by drawbacks. Initially granted, it could be asserted that being aware of nutrition facts of the dish could definitely trigger individuals’ disorders or lower the will to consume new dishes or beverages. It is evident that the ingredients used to create a dish in restaurants are a lot more different than the ones in home and this seems to increase the nutritional value of the food ,distancing some individuals from trying these recipes at home. For instance, an individual trying to recover from a mental sickness could be triggered by informations shown on nutrition label and this can even lead to recurrence of this disorder.
In conclusion, it seems to me that the potential dangers of revealing nutritional facts of dishes in restaurants are more significant than the possible benefits .
