In today’s world, while a majority of the public asserts that the national leaders should provide more monetary resources for space exploration, the others contend that money should be used to solve pressing problems on Earth like poverty and climate change. In my view, I believe that such issues that are existential on Earth need to be more prioritised.
Firstly, a noticeable reason why governments should not be investing in space exploration is that it is unrelated to the populace. To be more specific, the discovery of planets such as Mars or the Moon will only satisfy scientists and space enthusiasts, hence does not impact other groups of people. An example of this is the finding of rocks situated in the surface of the moon. Except for those who are interest and curious about the moon, the others are less likely to be affected by these revelations.
On the other hand, governments should be focusing on resolving problems on Earth as many of them need immediate solutions. Climate change, proverty, or diseases are such issues that are adversely impacting both the populace and the earth, and this means that money should not be wasted on other subjects that only provide entertainment values. For instance, global warming is a prevalent disaster that does not only affect humanity but also wild animals and the environment. This problem has been existential for decades and often disregarded by a host of politicians, yet its impacts has peaked and it needs urgent solution from the authorities.
In conclusion, it is perceptible that a further research on the Solar System will help us have a better understanding of our place in the universe, nevertheless, there are various pressing issues that if they are not treated carefully, then they might be insurmountable in the short future.
