A lot of people in the undeveloped countries pass away from illnesses that are curable because they can’t afford the medication to treat themselves. I agree with the statement that drug companies in the developed world should be obliged to make their products available at reduced prices in these undeveloped countries so that people do not die unnecessarily.
On the one hand, everyone has rights and it is the priority, not money. Access to healthcare that saves lives is a basic human right. No one should die from a curable and predictable disease just because of their financial status or country. For example, many poor people with diabetes die because they cannot afford insulin, even thought it is a very old and simple medicine to make and use.
On the other hand, making new drugs is very expensive and takes years, so if companies make less profit, they will not have enough money to develop new medicine to save people’s lives for the future. For instance, finding a cure for complicated diseases like cancer takes years and costs billions of dollars. If we ask hard companies to sell today’s medicines at low prices, they will go bankrupt and will never find drugs for this illnesses in the future.
To conclude, I reckon that medicine companies should make their products cheaper, so everyone can afford them and live their best life. WRITING TASK 2
