There are several reasons why museums have lost popularity in recent years. Due to the prevalence of social media platforms, people now have access to content that includes walkthroughs of certain public places for free. There is no longer a need to pay for a visit when unpaid; virtual alternatives are available. Second of all, the majority of museum visitors are of working age, meaning they often cannot spare time for the mentioned entertainment and exploration. Thus, most of the audience museums once had are either spending their time alongside their family members, or grinding even late at night at the office.
Nevertheless, I believe that museums serve several key purposes in today’s society. First and foremost, they help a young generation to learn their cultural identity. Our ancestors always leave behind the customs and traditions that hold a crucial role in our history, as well as securing a purposeful future for our society. Furthermore, museums serve as an entertainment place that often allows people to relieve their stress. Unlike sightseeing places, museums are less crowded, mostly letting their visitors enjoy and reflect on the exhibitions. In conclusion, although the strong interest in museums is waning for certain reasons, such as the social content being available and most niche-based visitors being busy, it is my opinion that they still have a crucial part to play in advancing our society, allowing us to reflect upon the exhibitions, and learning about our culture.
