It is true that nowadays more and more people use a cellphone. Although there are some drawbacks to this change, I side with those who feel that this trend has had as much positive impact as negative on society for two major reasons.
There are two principal reasons why this trend can be deemed favorable. First and foremost, people can communicate with each other easily even though they are far away. Indeed, when people can contact their family members or friends, they don’t feel lonely or isolated. Another positive impact this development engenders is people can find information easily and quickly. To be more specific, now people don’t have to go libraries to study something but they can stay at home and study online. These are two major desirable changes this development triggers.
However, by looking at the trend from a different perspective, we can see that it is not without demerits. Firstly, people become lazy. In the past people went to libraries to study but now they don’t leave their home at all and so they don’t move. Aside from this, sitting a lot in front of a screen leads to health problems. That’s to say, looking at the screen for a long time can damage our eyesight. Both these drawbacks are also serious enough to take into consideration, in my opinion.
In conclusion, although, on the one hand, the fact that the majority of people have a smartphone have some upsides such as communicating with each other and finding information easily and quickly, on the other, it can have equally serious downsides. Therefore, I am of the view that this is both a change for the better and for the worse in equal measures.
