The increasing rate of crime is becoming a concern in many countries. While some people think that we should increase the number of police officers to tackle this issue, I believe that there are other methods, including stricter punishment systems and educating people about the negative outcomes of crime.
Increasing the number of police officers on the streets and in public spaces has a number of benefits. One significant advantage it brings is that criminals are likely to lose their intention of committing a crime when they see a police officer nearby. This is because they know police officers do not forgive those who break the law. Let us see this with an example. If an offender steals money or attacks an ordinary person in public spaces where there are police officers, they are immediately taken to the police station for their actions. This may lead to even a short-term sentence, such as a two-week detention, which may prevent future criminal acts. As a result, criminals are likely to stop their intention to break the law, resulting in a reduction in crime rates.
However, I believe that we should also integrate other measures. In China, for example, the government has installed surveillance systems and 24/7 recording cameras in nearly every area. This has reduced crime rates over the last decade. Moreover, imposing longer sentences or punishing offenders more severely can also reduce crime. A good example can be seen in Saudi Arabia, where offenders have their arms cut off if they commit certain serious crimes. This has made the country one of the lowest crime-rate countries in the world. Such stringent rules should be implemented to solve this issue. Additionally, by supporting educational campaigns, we can improve this situation. Ordinary people should be warned about the negative consequences of crime. For example, lifelong imprisonment can be seen as a serious deterrent for many individuals. If they become wrongdoers, the public may also know them as criminals, which later poses challenges in finding a job or rejoining the community. Given this, I believe such considerations should be taken into account as important measures.
