Many students are motivated to make an effort and surpass other students instead of collaborating with others for common advantages. In my opinion, the disadvantages of this trend clearly outweigh the advantage.
On the one hand, providing students with a competitive environment can be beneficial. This is because it leads to personal growth and encourages students to reach the full potential. A competitive environment requires students to make great effort in studying to exceed their counterparts, which can include better knowledge, improved self-study skill, personal study plan and detailed timetable. Therefore, students growing up in a competitive environment can be go-getting, willing to rise to challenges and have strong professional competency. All of these factors are required by most companies. Therefore, students can have higher earning potential
Pushing students to rival their peers, I believe, offers substantial drawbacks that outweigh the merit. Firstly, a demanding learning environment leads to serious mental and physical illnesses. To acquire significant achievements, students have to attend various extra classes . Therefore, students do not have enough time for recreation or healthcare, which can result in declining physical and mental well-being such as depression or chronic fatigue and even deteriorate academic performance. Secondly, this trend can cause youngsters’ indifference, egoism and lack of togetherness.Compared to being encouraged to cooperate and achieve shared interests, being promoted to compete with others can cause students to be threatened by others’ achievements and always strive to overtake others and fail to appreciate their own value. In the long run, students may become devoid of sympathy, unity and confidence in themselves.
In conclusion, while the pressure to outperform peers can foster personal growth and provide essential skills for students’ life journeys, it is outweighed by the disadvantages for students’morals and healthcare. After all, the aim of education is to cultivate well-rounded citizens rather than individuals with high earning potential
