Most of the young generation are not rushed to find a partner, and some people think that it is because of the high standards set by social networks. I mostly disagree with this view.
On the one hand, there is plenty of content in social apps showing flawless images of relationships posted by people. Posts about ideal relationships without any conflicts and multiple advice regarding this with unhealthy principles got only popular in the last few years among adolescents. It caused unrealistic expectations among youngsters, for social media feeds showcase them idealized relationships, leading people to lose hope whenever human frictions occur. That is why young people break up without trying to resolve misunderstandings, without making it to the marriage. For example, there is a concept of “minimum bar” in relationships set by influencers that contain unrealistic standards towards opposite partners. These standards often involve them doing different actions or giving gifts, that are not usual to occur in real life. When a person does not see anything from that being completed by a partner, the person is bound to break any connections with them and stop counting on the partner. In essence, due to online posts shared by people containing unrealistic relationships, young generations tend to believe influencers and seek impossible traits from their partners, leading to being excessively demanding and breaking connections easily.
On the other hand, alongside videos showcasing ideal relations between two people, there are lots of posts with healthy advice by actual experts that young people often listen to. With access to social discussions and different specialists’ content, adolescents can be more informed about what kind of temperament is healthy or toxic, and it helps to build actual relations with a partner that could lead to a shared future and marriage. For example, online psychologists help pairs to solve multiple problems that appear between two people, making it much easier to maintain the relationship. In other words, nowadays, there is a lot of information about connections between partners, helping to resolve misunderstandings and understand feelings, and it affects people’s relations in the most positive way, causing them to be long-term.
In conclusion, not only can social media create unsettling standards among young people, which leads to the prevalence of short-term relations, but it also can be a source of knowledge about the nature of relationships, giving opportunities to actually build a connection that could lead to marriage in the end.
