Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The big cities currently had a massive growth in population because of the needs of land use increasing so the land value also increasing most people only afford to living in small houses wich only provided little outdoor space or even doesn’t have it. This kind of development can be affect our environment negatively because two reasons.

More concrete more dificult the ability of soil to absorb water. One of the functions of outdoor space is to absorb water especially from rain. If water catchmen area is smaller than the volume of water it can cause flooding because of lack of water that absorbed into soil. For example in the Bandung’s slum housing in the near of the Cikapundung river that usually experienced flooding in the rain season.

Lack of outdoor space especially in the form of green space can increase urban heat. Concrecte and buildings can absorb heat from the sun and caused the temperature of the cities increased. Because of that many local governments in many counties creating an urban policy minimum green space for their people houses. Increasing heat in the cities can also cause the health of it residents, for example a high temperature can also cause the people get heatstroke.

Even though small houses with very little or no outdoor space can be a solution for demand due to the increases in population spesifically in big cities, the risk to the environment need to be kept in check so it can prevent the negative effects of it.
