In this modern era, majority of people prefer to live alone instead of living with family members or roommates. It has become a very common trend among today’s young generation. Although it offer some benefits to people, its drawbacks cannot be overlooked.
To begin with merits of this situation, it offers independence and freedom. To explain it, people who live alone can make their own decisions without inference of family, it encourages them to become confident, responsible and self-reliant, and help them to grow personally. Secondly, individuals can enjoy quiet time because of peaceful environment and its beneficial for them to concentrate on their studies or career goals which maybe not possible if living in a family. Finally, people who live by themselves have more flexibility because its easier for them to move or travel without worrying about others’ schedules.
However, this trend has some demerits also. One significant drawback is loneliness and isolation. To clarify it, if people live alone they can face mental issues for instance,anxiety because they have lack of social interaction and emotional support, they cannot share their problems and become less communicative. Moreover, living alone can increase the financial burden because all expenses for example rent, bills and groceries are covered by one person. Finally, living alone can be risky for elderly people in emergencies because they cannot take immediate help from others.
In conclusion, living alone provides independence and personal space, but it negatively impact people’s mental health and they face financial pressure because of higher living costs. Therefore, they should consider the both pros and cons before deciding to live alone.
