Many employers are placing greater emphasis on social skills as well as academic qualifications when recruiting employees. From my perspective, I completely agree that social skills are just as important as academic qualifications for success in a job.
Professional qualifications are essential because they help employees to perform accurately at the workplace. Each profession may require workers to have certain knowledge and technical skills, which individuals can often acquire through learning programs at university or vocational courses. Therefore, the qualifications awarded by these educational institutions serve as a way for employees to demonstrate their competence and ability to do the job appropriately. Otherwise, they may struggle to solve work-related problems or fail to meet professional standards. For example, doctors and engineers must receive professional training before they are allowed to practise because even a small mistake can have serious consequences. As a result, professional qualìications form foundational and necessary knowledge skills for employees to succeed in their jobs.
Although qualifications enable people to perform their jobs accurately, social skills are equally important because they allow employees to work efficiently with others and help companies improve productivity in the long run. This is mainly because people possessing strong interpersonal abilities are willing to share their difficulties that they encounter immediately while working and listen to others’ feedback. Therefore, these employees who are open to raise concerns at an early stage allow managers and colleagues to identify solutions before minor issues become serious obstacles. Furthermore, with tasks requiring collaboration or teamwork, good social skills help workers exchange ideas effectively and reduce misunderstandings among members while working together. Consequently, this can lead to better understanding among employees with coworkers and managers, allowing the project to be completed faster and creating higher productivity.
In conclusion, with good social skills, employees not only improve productivity for companies but also establish more professional relationships which can be beneficial for their careers in the long run.
