It is true that in today’s generation more and more families are becoming more distant with each other unlike in the past. While these have possible effects on the society as a whole, there are reasons why this phenomenon occurred.
An increasing number of families become more distant with other are caused by several factors. Firstly, parents wanted to see their children learn from prestigious universities that are usually far from their home and located in major cities. That is why, they opt to send their children to pursue their studies which is essential to have a successful future. As a result, this lessens the amount of family bonding and communication among them, as children become busier with their academics. Secondly, it is now a common belief that in order to provide the financial needs of their children, parents choose to work abroad to seek more opportunities and greener pasture. This result to some children having an emotional barrier because at an early age, they are yet matured to fathom this complicated family set up.
As families are becoming more distant, traditions and family values in the society are affected. Firstly, communication gap is one of its negative effects in which can result to some family problems remained unsolved. This is evident when children opt to share their personal problems among their peers instead of opening them up to their parent because in the first place their parents are not there to cater their problems. Secondly, there may be a loss of family values when children become more distant to their elderly. This can be seen when the child becomes more familiar with their friends instead of their relatives.
