These days, it has been very widespread among many nations to include chemical additives into food manufacturing and storage since the shelf life of products with chemicals is increased and it is much cheaper and more affordable. While it is reasonable to consider adding chemicals beneficial, what I do firmly believe in is that as long as it possesses danger to human health, the advantages do not overweigh the disadvantages.
First of all, the most concerning disadvantage of chemical use in food production is the potential harm to human health. Chemical residues from additives can appear in food, leading to serious long term illnesses or food poisoning for consumers. For example additives named pesticides which are used in agriculture to plant crops and maintain high quality of food can lead to disease such as asthma, ADHD or cancer. Another important disadvantage is air pollution. The need for chemicals forces factories to produce more and more and as a result contaminated gases come out and cause air pollution.
Still there are few benefits of chemical usage such as cost and long term expiration date. The food with chemicals is considerably cheaper and it’s beneficial for people who cannot afford organic products. Moreover, the shelf life is increased, that’s why people can purchase a huge amount of products without worrying about its expiration date. However, not only common people, for instance such food can be given to soldiers on military missions and it may be stored for a long time.
In conclusion, despite the fact that there are many advantages of using chemicals in food production and preserving such as cost, long term expiration date, they do not overweigh disadvantages such as health risks which is much more crucial.
