Due to rapid technological advancements, there has been a shift toward online shopping, and lots of ordinary shops have been closed. However, although it may be beneficial, there will be several drawbacks that affect society mentally and physically and threaten security.
Nowadays, people tend to buy what they need digitally for several reasons. Firstly, it is way easier to reach stores online than going around busy shops, and that means we have been able to buy our essentials with a click of a button. For example, going to a shop will take a great deal of time, while reaching an online store can take only one minute.
On the other hand, buying online can cause lots of problems, such as chronic health diseases because sitting at home will reduce physical activity. It will also drag people to stay at their houses rather than going outside and seeing people and life, which may lead to obesity, diabetes and heart diseases. Moreover, it has detrimental effects on mental health because people are more likely to be introverts by minimizing their social interactions. As a result, it can lead to depression, social anxiety and loneliness. Also, there are some security issues related to payments, private information and phishing emails, and that is because new online stores do not develop strong online security systems, as a result, your bank account may be stolen by scammers.
In conclusion, I believe that shopping online is a double-edged sword. It has some advantages such as managing time, but there are numerous obstacles that have a significant impact on our safety and health, so we need to be wary of them and shop wisely.
