In the modern era, an increasing number of students have the prospect of undertaking either a portion or the entirety of their academic pursuits in foreign countries. While there are numerous advantages to studying abroad, it also presents several drawbacks.
For countries like Nepal, studying overseas offers a multitude of benefits. For instance, a significant percentage of students who have completed their secondary education and graduated from higher educational institutions in Nepal opt to pursue further studies abroad due to the inadequacies in the local educational system. This exodus is primarily driven by the lack of quality educational institutions and the ineffective learning environment within the country. Consequently, for Nepalese students who have completed their undergraduate or bachelor’s degrees, moving abroad for further education presents the opportunity to access a superior learning environment.
Conversely, there are also several disadvantages associated with studying abroad. Foremost among these is the challenge of managing everyday necessities independently. Tasks such as finding suitable accommodation, cooking for oneself, and attending to basic needs can pose significant difficulties for some individuals. Furthermore, the dual responsibility of earning a livelihood while pursuing academic endeavors in a foreign land should not be underestimated. As a result of such challenges, some students may experience mental health issues, including depression and social anxiety, stemming from the frustration and pressure of this dual role.
In conclusion, while studying abroad can present formidable challenges, it also offers students the invaluable opportunity to cultivate independence and shape their careers in line with their aspirations. It is my firm belief that students should endeavor to surmount the obstacles they encounter, viewing them as a means to personal growth and the development of a promising future.
