Positive And Negative

Band 8+: Nowadays, more tasks at home and at work are being performed by robots. Is this a negative or positive development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In recent years, the increasing use of artificial intelligence in both households and workplaces has attracted considerable attention, raising questions about why more tasks are being automated and whether this trend should be regarded as a positive or negative development. It is predicted by some that robotic systems will take over a large proportion of the work currently performed by humans. To my mind, the growing reliance on autonomous machines represents a negative transformation.

One of the principal driving forces behind the widespread adoption of robotic systems across both domestic and professional settings is their capacity to carry out routine duties with greater efficiency, precision, and consistency than human labour. Furthermore, automated systems are less prone to errors due to their sophisticated control mechanisms. Expanding on this point, automated machines can perform repetitive duties consistently without experiencing fatigue, allowing businesses and households to maintain a high level of efficiency over extended periods. As a result, professional spheres and domestic environments that rely on precise and thoroughly evaluated decision-making are more likely to attain consistently favourable outcomes, making AI-driven automation an increasingly attractive option for a wide range of organisations.

Despite these apparent advantages, the growing dependence on AI-driven automation can have far-reaching negative consequences, particularly in terms of job displacement and the erosion of essential human skills. Moreover, individuals who have devoted years of their lives to obtaining the qualifications necessary for their desired careers may find themselves displaced as a result of rapid technological advancement. It is important to recognise that many of these workers rely on their income to support their families and cover essential living expenses, including food and accommodation.Consequently, widespread automation can create considerable financial insecurity for those whose livelihoods are replaced by machines.

In the final analysis, despite the fact that AI-driven automation can enhance efficiency and accuracy, its potential to displace workers and create financial insecurity makes it a predominantly negative development. For this reason,I am convinced that the long-term social and economic consequences of excessive reliance on automation outweigh its potential benefits.
