In terms of the social fabric, many countries argue that economic development will enhance the quality of life for most citizens, while other crucial social aspects may disappear as a result. From my perspective, I believe that the drawbacks will outweigh the benefits, and I will present specific reasons for this in the following essay.
On one hand, economic development can provide humans with better well-being and increased awareness. A higher standard of living means that citizens have opportunities to maintain their health and access other benefits, particularly through education and gaining knowledge. With economic development, governments may be able to focus on these areas by prioritizing education and healthcare systems. This is why many countries view advancing the overall economy as the best approach to improve people’s quality of life, as education and healthcare play a significant role in fulfilling basic human needs compared to other social values.
On the other hand, excessive economic development can lead to more significant social implications. In terms of morality, many individuals may be willing to sacrifice everything, disregarding conditions and ethical considerations to achieve their goals. This can not only have a negative impact on a person’s intrinsic values but also be harmful to others. For instance, individuals obsessed with wealth may engage in illegal activities, ranging from theft to violence, in pursuit of more money. Moreover, as a nation progresses economically, it may experience a rise in inflation. Prices of goods could soar due to increased demand for basic necessities, while the supply may not be adequate. Therefore, many people argue that economic development could devalue the currency in their countries.
In conclusion, despite the advantages of enhancing the standard of living through economic growth, it is crucial to address its disadvantages. From my perspective, I believe that the benefits will not outweigh the drawbacks, as they may have more detrimental effects on other social aspects, leading to lasting consequences for society as a whole.
