Looking ahead, students are predominantly focused on securing a job that aligns with their career aspirations. Some universities offer courses with lower fees and promising job prospects, while the medical field is often viewed as complex and demanding. The primary reasons for the low interest in science subjects include the exorbitant course fees and the lengthy duration of such programs. For instance, students from affluent backgrounds have the privilege of choosing courses from any university due to their ability to meet the high tuition costs.
Nevertheless, certain universities facilitate financial support through fee waivers and scholarship programs. This enables middle-class families to explore such opportunities and select colleges that offer these incentives. For illustration, the University of Chester not only offers medical courses but also provides financial benefits to students scoring above 85%, thereby reducing their tuition fees by a significant margin.
Furthermore, a society relies on the presence of competent healthcare professionals like doctors, nurses, and paramedics. Therefore, it is imperative for the government to extend support to all aspiring students, as the demand for skilled medical practitioners is only expected to rise in the foreseeable future. For instance, in the context of public health crises such as the recent outbreak of COVID-19, the critical role of healthcare workers becomes evident.
In my view, students encounter challenges in establishing a successful career path, with the field of medicine being a source of pride for communities. Particularly during times of emergencies or outbreaks of life-threatening diseases, the indispensable services of medical professionals become crucial. The scarcity of healthcare workers will inevitably have adverse effects on society in the long term.
