Tourism sector is the most fast growing industry across the globe. Many of the countries are known for their tourism as for instance Vietnam is popular for its rich biodiversity and heritage, on the other hand, South Africa is known for its wildlife.
The abovementioned industry has developed throughout the years. Basically, there has been an immense change in people’ s standard of living which has contributed to the growth of the tourism sector. Furthermore, due to the rise in the income level, people prefer to travel internationally rather than travelling in domestic.
The rise of tourism industry comes with certain advantages and disadvantages. One such advantage as well as reason for the boon of tourism industry can be attributed to economic growth. The said industry leads to GDP(Gross Domestic Product)growth of the country by attracting more visitors. In addition to this, it also helps the world to know about the rich and culture diversity of the countries and aids in generating employment opportunities in the rural areas thereby reducing income disparities.
On the contrary, tourism industry was the sole sector which was massively affected by the pandemic which lasted for 3 consecutive years. This gradually affected the economic growth of various countries along with the livelihood of many tourist guides dependent upon these jobs. Due to a decline in country’s GDP, numerous countries opened the door for the visitors in order to curb the issue of economic growth and made international travel cheaper in comparison to domestic travel. Again, the tourism sector is extremely dynamic in its nature and is dependent upon various factors.
I think, though there are some disadvantages but the advantages outweighs the same in so many ways. Recently, I visited Thailand, a country surrounded by islands. During the end of the trip,one of the tour guides shared his experience regarding the loss of income during covid,this eventually made me realize that almost one-third of the countries in the world are generate their economy with the aid of the tourism sector.To conclude, many countries as well its citizens are still solely dependent on the abovementioned industry to generate income.
