Advertising aimed at children has become very common, especially during television programmes watched after school. In my opinion, such it should not be allowed since advertisements can influence children to ask their parents for unnecessary products and also encourage unhealthy eating habits.
It is common knowledge that in many cases, children are prone to follow the trends that they see in advertisements, pressuring their parents to buy them. From a young age, children are surrounded by different digital devices where they can watch a range of advertising, they can see them after every cartoon on TV, phones and laptops. So, it is predictable that children become a key target audience for companies. Because children are more emotional, they often do not understand what they really want. For example, after seeing advertisements for toys or snacks, children usually buy them even if they do not really need them since companies can show products more attractive and special. To sum up, this type of expenditure can put financial pressure on families.
It is also important to point out that advertisements can impact harmfully on children’s health.
Nowadays, obesity among children is the most globally health problem and in this case advertisements are the main reason for this issue. The large companies such as KFC and Mcdonald’s release multiple advertisements, attracting children’s attention. For example, after watching such advertisements, children may want to eat this food more often, which can gradually lead to unhealthy eating habits that are the main cause of obesity. So, advertisements not only encourage children to follow the trends, but also can negatively affect their health.
In conclusion, I believe that advertisements aimed at children should be restricted, since it leads to many problems, such as purchasing non-essential products and health problems.
