The committing crimes by children has always been a central concern, specially, in an era where human rights and ethical considerations are playing an undeniable role on penalizing the offenders. That is, whether these young offenders should take the punishment for their actions or their parents are the one who should be responsible, is vital to be answered. Although many opposite reasons persist, I believe the penalty should be done to parents of criminal children.It has been claimed that children considered to be vulnerable and impressible individuals are directly influenced by the behavior of their immediate family and the dynamic exists among people in their home. Not only has experience of past people narrated this, but it also has proved by psychologists and experts through several tests. As a result, when a child commits a crime, parents are the ones who are considered to be blamed. By applying this approach in society, irresponsible parents would understand that raising a child requires efficient rearing methods, not negligence and inattention.
Additionally, when a disaster occurs, someone should take the accountability and pay the damage to the victim. A child, in most cases, is not at the possession of ability or authority of handling this responsibility. For example, if a child is damaged the neighbor’s car and run away, the justice rules that their parents are to compensate and take the vicarious liability; otherwise, it is not fair to ignore this incident for both individuals and society.
Of course, many people argue that an individual should be responsible for her/his own actions and penalization works as a deterrence, regardless of age or size. They believe from very young ages, children should face the consequences of what they did. However, as it mentioned, children are highly affected by the fluctuations experienced by their family, so they will learn this matter through watching their parents being punished for their behavior.
In conclusion, while there are many ideas about operating justice in case of children, recognized to be the most vulnerable individuals who may make mistakes and commit crimes, I believe parents should be responsible for what their child do. By applying this approach, both parents and children would realize their mistake and repent of their actions.
