Nowadays, people are expected to live longer than in the past because of the advance of healthcare and living standards.Although the positive effects,it can also cause undesirable challenges for individuals and society.
On the positive side, longer life expectancy may bring several benefits for both individuals and society like family support and economic contribution.Firstly, elderly, who have already retired from work and spend most of their time indoors, can provide help raising their grandchildren. This is especially efficient in families with dual-income.In the other cases, older people can also remain in employment causing useful effects by transferring knowledge and experience to the workforce to strengthen the economy.Which is also a significant contribution that will benefit society and younger generations.
On the negative side,an aging population can place considerable pressure on government and other individuals.First negative implication is pension strain. This is because with rise of number of retirees require more amount of government spending to ensure sustainable living for all residents without no accusations of discrimination.Another major problem is healthcare pressure, elderly are usually more prone to illness, leading to higher demand for treatment in hospitals and reducing capacity for younger patients. This is the facto that cause the reduction of life satisfaction of society.
In conclusion, although people living longer may bring benefits for their own families and may have some sort of support for economics,it can also be a burden by adding pressure on healthcare and pension systems.
