It is an irrefutable debate that plastic material and its by-products bring disadvantages to the surrounding environment. As it destroys biodiversity causing soil pollution and harm to cattle and domestic animals. There are some solutions to combat this problem which the essay will discuss.
To begin with, although plastic and its by-products play an essential role in our life making it comfortable and easy, it also creates havoc for nature. When used plastic bags are thrown it, they don’t decompose or recycle easily but ultimately pollute the soil. This makes soil infertile and hampers crop production. It also affects the lives of terrestrial animals such as dogs, cats, and cattle who roam around and eat from compounds filled with plastic waste. Moreover, in certain circumstances it is dumped into the sea, not only becoming a threat to fish and other organisms but also completely damaging seas. This affects marine life by significantly declining their breeding at various places which makes fisheries go into losses. For instance, In the 2012 World Biodiversity Forum, published a report in which they illustrated that around 60% of the remarkable death of cattle was caused due to plastic swallowing. This completely alarms the need for immediate solutions.
To combat this, the joint solution has to be looked upon. Formulating strategies, policies, and delegation of responsibility to every citizen is only a final solution. The government significantly needs to invest in a startup that encourages and makes the replacement of plastic and its by-products. Additionally, the consumption of cloth bags, wooden plates, and wooden straws should be notably increased. Strict rules should be implemented and high fines should be given for overuse of it. For example, the Indonesian youth forum recently established a startup in which they produced wooden plates, wooden straws, and other household products. They sold these to big party caterers and event management companies and within a year they were successful in reducing around 40% of plastic use. They gave 50% of their profits towards cleaning the sea nearby. Thus, water pollution was reduced by these small but effective efforts.
