Wildlife and ecosystem is in serious threat due to the plastic waste being accumulated in oceans and forests. This is because plastic cannot be recycled and stays in the environment for many years. This issue can be addressed by replacing use of plastic with ecofriendly options.
Plastic can not be recycled. This is because unlike other materials, plastic does not decompose causing it to stay in environment for thousands of years. This causes plastic waste to keep increasing over the years. Moreover, the constant use of plastic produces microplastics which, if go in a living body, can be harmful. For example, In 2020, an anti-plastic movement broke out because vast number of ocean life died due to plastic straws or bags being stuck on their bodies.
This issue can be solved by replacing the use of plastic with more ecofriendly options. This is can be done by replacing plastic straws with paper straws and plastic bags with paper bags. This is because paper is a highly ecofriendly material and can be decomposed. Futhermore, plastics in environments where the wildlife is impacted should be thorougly cleaned. For example, Nestle has now replaced their plastic straw with paper one. And there are many brands that uses paper bags now instead of plastic.
In conclusion, plastic waste poses serious threats to wildlife and environment due to its unrecyclable nature and therefore being accumulated in environment for many years. However, this problem can be addressed by using more environmental friendly options instead of plastic.
