Some people believe that the prison system is the best way to address the issue of crime. Whilst others contend that providing the nation with a good education is a better option. I completely agree with the first statement as most crimes are committed not due to illiteracy or poor education.
On the one hand, it is essential to create rehabilitation systems for former prisoners since they are still a part of the society and have rights to get assistance to get back to a normal life. However, replacing the prison system with a better education cannot be a feasible solution to reduce the crime rates. Since the majority of offence committed happens not because of lack of education. For example, most of youth crime occur in emergency situations when youngsters simply want to protect themselves from robbers or kidnappers.
On the other hand, jails and imprisonment are the key factors which prevent people from doing crime. If they are cancelled by law, it may lead to a significant rise in crime rates as lawbreakers are not afraid of the consequences of their crime. Furthermore, it is almost impossible to prevent reoffending unless outlaws are sentenced. For instance, there is a huge number of victims who experienced raping in the countries which do not punish rapists.
In conclusion, providing people with a better education is not the best idea to fight the issue of crime. Imprisoning is considered a more effective solution as it helps to keep the criminals in control.
