Nowadays, numerous criminals after being released have a high proportion to reoffend. This essay would shed light on several factors causing this phenomenon as well as its potential solution.
To begin with, there are a wide range of reasons leading to this issue. First and foremost, discrimination derived from society is an aggravating factor which takes part in increasing recidivism rate. Most criminals who set free suffer from lack of opportunities in all aspects from finding occupation to connecting with people because it is hard to reintegrate into the community. Once being isolated and abandoned, crimes tend to turn back to a community at which they can receive acceptance from other criminals, leading them to fall into the crime circle again. Moreover, it can be witnessed that the primary cause is the prison environment. A person who is sent inside the bars is educated not to become a good person but to practice bad habits from other criminals. As a result, the prison environment has distorted human nature, making them fall into crime circles easily. For example, new crimes are taught how to steal a car or to steal money from others.
Alongside factors leading to the recidivism rate, there is also a solution in order to address this issue. Primarily, the government needs to create chances including a comfortable community or suitable environment to help prisoners to transform their life. By operating campaigns, the government might change the prejudice of people about ex-prisoners and help them in finding jobs as well. Furthermore, people, specifically police, also need to treat prisoners like a normal person without growing pressure on criminals, enable them to correct mistakes and reintegrate into society.
