Band 6+: Society today has more problems with the behaviour of teenagers than in the past. What do you think are the causes of this? What solutions can you suggest?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is a common belief that nowadays the behavior of teenagers is far more problematic than it was in the past. This tendency could be caused by numerous reasons such as the difficulties with relationships with parents and peers, the dramatic increase of technology, the significant impact of social media. Therefore, a lot of teenagers are bound to suffer from enormous number of problems they have to face at a young age without any clues to solving them. All of that can lead to a rise in stress, rudeness and reclusiveness, so it’s extremely essential to keep that in mind and try to support them in everything they do.

In my opinion, the major factor of the challenges in teenagers’ lives could be an increase in social media. Due to the prevalence of them, it’s widely agreed that face-to-face communication is not as widespread anymore. More and more children choose the lifestyle of the loner, chatting and interacting with people remotely, staying alone most of the time. Afterward, they are more likely to get depressed and demotivated starting to waste their life. Moreover, it’s statistically proven that teenagers who use social media are more susceptible to being unhappy due to the envy of the brightness and beauty of others’ lives. For instance, my sister when she was seventeen years oldwas obsessed with her body, following the standards of trends and fashion. Subsequently, her mental and physical health deteriorated in a very significant way.

In addition, the lack of involvement of parents in their child’s life also makes a great impact. It’s undeniable that a great deal of relatives don’t pay the proper attention to the problems in the families, not caring about the consequences of that. Besides the pressure from society, teenagers

have to solve the problems with their family, which refuses to support them. Instead of that, tutors, teachers and relatives have to help youths in managing and struggling with the complexities of life, providing the right facilities, resources, and opportunities. Also, I’m convinced that it’s necessary to give freedom to children and not control them all the time, because nobody can be happy having constant restrictions.

To sum up, it seems that the behavior of teenagers is a growing concern in our society. While it is difficult to determine the exact reasons for this, it is clear that there are more challenges and pressures facing young people today than in the past. As a society, we must work together to address these issues and support our youth in navigating the complexities of modern life.
