Band 6+: Some believe that people will purchase a product based on their needs and advertising is not needed. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In this day and age, some individuals claim advertising is not essential and that buying an item for consumption depends on people’s needs. Personally, I partly disagree with this suggestion based on some major reasons that are explained in this essay

On the one hand, people tend to only buy things that they consider truly necessary. In terms of customer product needs, consumers will often only buy things when they realize that they really have a need to use that item. For example, when going to the supermarket, people will often ignore the advertising boards, they only care about the counters containing the items they need to buy and pick them up. These items are purchased based on customer needs.

On the other hand, advertising products to consumers is really necessary. When it brings many benefits to customers, customers can search for product information through internet sites after reading the advertisement and then decide whether to buy or not. In addition, customers can also compare prices and quality of a certain item through advertising. For example, if a customer wants to buy a new set of clothes, they can search on shopping websites such as Amazon or Shoppe to see which one has the more suitable price and good material from which they can make a buying decision your goods

In short, people have a tendency buying what they needs. However, I disagree with the idea that purchasers will buy merchandise in demand without advertising. Hopefully, advertising will developed and bring again enormous benefit for buyer in the future.

Some believe that people will purchase a product based on their needs and advertising is not needed. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The extent to which advertising is necessary, given that people theoretically purchase based on their needs, is debatable. While needs-based purchasing has validity, advertising significantly shapes consumer choices. It’s true that fundamental needs, like food and shelter, drive purchases regardless of advertising. Consumers also research specialized products to meet specific needs, where advertising mainly provides […]
