Band 7+: Some children spend hours everyday on smartphones. Why is this the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In contemporary society, a substantial number of young children are inclined to dedicate extended periods of time to the use of smart phones, particularly those between the ages of 10 and 15, which is a critical developmental stage for the younger generation. While the utilization of smart phones during this formative period can be beneficial in certain scenarios, excessive use by children can have detrimental effects.

I firmly believe that prolonged and unmonitored use of smart phones can have negative repercussions on children’s development. This issue heavily relies on parental oversight. For instance, parents may permit their children to use smart phones to avoid interruptions while working. Unfortunately, many parents are unaware that this apparently minor allowance can have profound implications for their children’s future. While smart phones can be a valuable tool when used responsibly, they also have the potential to hinder a child’s progress.

It is crucial to limit children’s access to smart phones, as these devices can serve as valuable educational resources, enabling them to access information and advanced technologies. However, children often misuse smart phones by engaging in unproductive activities such as playing games and watching irrelevant content, which can lead to physical and mental underdevelopment. This misuse can manifest in a lack of self-confidence, premature physical ailments such as back and eye pain, headaches, and a decline in creative thinking abilities.

In conclusion, I am of the opinion that smart phones can be a boon for humanity if they are utilized judiciously. While smart phones offer numerous potential advantages when used appropriately, it is crucial to recognize the adverse effects of excessive and unregulated usage, particularly among young children.
